Retirement planning and planned giving are interrelated.
By utilizing planned gifts, a donor can obtain financial
benefits to assist with retirement. Similarly, retirement
plans can be used to philanthropically benefit the mission
of the Central DuPage Health Foundation. Planned gifts
fall into three general categories:
1. Outright GiftsThe Foundation has immediate
use of donated assets, such as securities, tangible
personal property, and some real estate.
2. BequestsThe donor uses or controls the asset
during his or her lifetime and the Foundation receives
the asset at the donors passing.
3. Life Income GiftsThe donor makes a gift today
and receives a stream of income for life. Upon the donors
passing, the Foundation has use of the remainder of
the gift.
Planned giving is attractive to donors for many reasons.
With a planned gift, donors can often give larger gifts
than they thought possible and can:
- receive a stream of income for life
- often increase the yield they receive from their
investments
- benefit from a charitable income tax deduction
- reduce or eliminate capital gains taxes or estate
taxes
The benefits of planned giving provide the charity-minded
donor with reasons to act sooner rather than later.
